Some Tips for Kids During Hot Days

Now a day, environmental temperature of Bangladesh has dramatically increased. Children particularly younger kids are usually affected more. For health of your kids during this unusually hot situation the following tips may be helpful:

  1. Do not take your baby outside home until extremely necessary.
  2. Try to maintain room temperature between 28°-30°C. Use fan, air cooler or AC whichever feasible.
  3. Give plenty of liquid- plain water, coconut water, saline water, lemon water, fresh fruit juice, milk etc. Strict hygiene must be maintained particularly in case of liquids.
  4. Do not give sugarcane juice, lemon water or fruit juice that are sold openly in the street. Soft drink, tea, coffee are also not suitable for babies.
  5. Give soft diet or semi solid diet that can be digested easily. Avoid rich food, junk food, open street food. Fresh fruits and vegetables are very healthy.
  6. Give shower every day.
  7. Use loose cotton made clothes. Tight clothes are unhealthy. Do not use nappy or diapers for long time.
  8. Do not apply any oil or oily agent to the skin. Use prickly heat powder.
  9. Ensure day time rest at least for an hour or two.
  10. Ensure hand hygiene before taking foods.
  11. Use mosquito net during sleep (To prevent Chikungunya, Dengue fever outbreak).
  12. During fever use only Paracetamol and sponging to control temperature. Without consulting your physician do not use antibiotics or other medicines.
