Nasal blockage & its home remedy

While suffering from common cold, a baby’s nose very often becomes stuffy, congested and blocked by discharge. As neonates (0-28days old babies) are obligatory nasal breathers, their normal breathing process become difficult. Nasal blockage also creates a very irritating and disturbing sensation in children, while sleeping or remaining wide awake, and badly interferes with breast feeding. So, whenever your child has nasal discharge, considering that the nose is blocked, some easy to apply home measures could be taken. Clean the liquid secretion by the nose using a cotton bud. Insert the cotton bud into the nose and twirl it round and round until the nose is totally clean. Then apply two drops of Norsol drop to each nostril.  After that, gently and for a short while only, give a  massage outside the nose. It will soften the hard crust inside the nose and help in drainage, thereby facilitating comfortable breathing for the baby. Apply this process 3-4 times daily until relief. Norsol is normal saline (0.9%), and is not harmful for the baby .Without consulting your doctor about your baby, you should not use nasal drops containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline; their frequent use may destroy nasal mucosa.

Protect Your Child From Urinary Infection

Occurrence of urinary infection repeatedly in a child may cause severe damage to kidneys and may lead to kidney failure.

2.Do not use tight clothing (underwear)

Is your baby 1-2 years old? Stay even more alert!

This issue might be something we can’t even imagine. However this is taking place frequently. Every day, on average, 48 children die as a result of drowning. That drowning takes place only in lakes or rivers, is not the case. It can even occur in the house. Children aged 1-2 years, who have just learned to walk, are specially victim to drowning. Commonly that is the case, children fall upside-down into buckets full of water and drown. Therefore, those people who have a 1-2 year old child in their house, must lock the doors to their bathrooms at all times, and keep every  water-container , that is large enough for a child to fall into, empty.

How to tie & cut umbilical cord

After birth, it is very important to cut the umbilical cord with a clean, aseptic blade or scissor. Clean and aseptic instrument is mandatory to prevent infection like tetanus. There is a unique rule how to knot or clip the cord before cutting and that is 214.According to Bangladesh neonatal forum, the first knot has to be given two fingers apart from abdomen, second knot one finger apart from the first knot and third knot four fingers apart from the second knot. The cord has to be cut in between second and third knot, one finger away from the second knot. The cut end should be wiped with povidone iodine (povisep/arodin/viodin) solution.
